Tropical Bedding – Takes You on Vacation Everyday

If your bedding is starting to get a little tired or it’s time for a bedroom makeover, why not bring in some color and think a little nostalgia at the same time?  Do you want to feel like you are on vacation everyday? You can come closer to that feeling if you check out the beautiful tropical print comforters and sheet sets that are on the market. Hawaiian prints are very popular now in decorating--especially with baby boomers. When you decide on a Hawaiian or tropical theme, this is a flashback to the 60’s and the music of the Beach Boys. Wearing Hawaiian shirts were popular then and are very popular today. The colors and prints could even be reminiscent of times during World War II when the guys were returning with those fabulous printed pillows from their tours in the islands. People didn’t travel in those days like they do now and being on an island was really an adventure that was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s great if you can find some vintage fabrics; but if you can’t, just look around because the colors and prints of the islands are everywhere at any price.

The most difficult part of your decision may be deciding on color. Tropical prints are everything in every color imaginable. Soft, soothing pinks and greens are available or maybe a brighter blue that matches the ocean and a hot yellow like the sun is what you long for.  A tropical comforter and sheet set can be bright or pastel, depending on the look you want to achieve for the bedroom décor. If you want something that is a little different, try a black, red or blue and white theme. There are tropical prints that look great with primary colors and white. This would be a silhouette style and somewhat more sophisticated. It adds drama to the room.

Prints are another consideration for the room. There is something for everyone, including surf boards, sunsets, beach chairs and tiki. Flowers are prevalent including hibiscus, tropical leis, philodendrons, and ginger. However, a tropical comforter doesn’t have to be just big flowers.  I have seen some sheet sets that are palm trees and ferns too.  They were lovely and very festive.  These prints are also a good choice if you have a partner.  The man in your life may not want a big floral hibiscus or bird of paradise print to sleep under. You may not want big flowers for window treatments because everywhere he looks in the bedroom will be large flowers. Keep the tropical treatment on the bed and add in a few accessories.  When it comes to bedrooms, you have to keep the guys happy too. The leaves and ferns make for a good compromise. 

When you try to do a themed room, don’t forget about the accessories that are so popular. If a master bath is involved, find a lotion dispenser and shower curtain hooks shaped like a pineapple. A soap dish in the shape of a flip flop is fun or the toothbrush holder that resembles a palm tree. Brown coconut shaped dispensers are also whimsical in a bathroom. If all of the colors and shapes are too wild in the bedroom, get the same splash of color, only more toned down with just a few throw pillows. If you want some additional fun in the bedroom, add throw rugs and lamps that are bamboo and jute. This also evokes thoughts of a tropical island paradise. Let your imagination take you away to a paradise and sleep under the warm tropical breezes every night with tropical bedding.
