Read more Spotlight on Charity Articles Spotlight on Charity - The Comfort Quilts Project Debby Bullentini, a wife, mother, and teacher in Reno, Nevada, wanted to help the children who lost parents in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. She came up with the idea of the Comfort Quilt Project. This project will eventually put "comfort quilts" in the hands of 15,000 children. The Comfort Quilt Project was presented on the floor of the House of the Representatives of the United States Congress by Representative Jim Gibbons in November 2001, and became a national project. Groups throughout the country, including Girl Scout troops, church groups, families, friends, and even celebrities have contributed squares to the project. Already, quilts have been distributed to all the children who lost a parent in the Pentagon, and more quilts have been delivered to the children who lost a parent in Pennsylvania and in the Twin Towers in New York. The Comfort Quilts Project is sponsored by Bekins Moving and Storage, American General Contractors, the Boys and Girls Club, and thoughtful people who have contributed donations. Forty seamstresses donate their time and talent to put together the quilt squares which are sent from around the country. You can help by making a quilt square or sending a donation.
